Web Hosting Services

KMK Enterprises provides Web hosting services for our design clients only. Web hosting service is provided as a separate contract from the Web site development contract. We do not run our own servers from our primary location, but rather provide hosting via leased servers from third party providers. Our primary server is located in the carrier-neutral Equinix Chicago Data Center [www.equinix.com], which provides access to all the major carriers in Chicago without the need for local loop circuits. KMK Enterprises retains total remote Server Administrative access to this machine. All client technical support issues are handled through us. Experience has shown us that this is the best and most cost effective approach to providing high quality Web hosting service for our clients. The parties through which we secure these services have a proven track record, 99.8% guaranteed up time, and a highly trained, 24/7 technical support staff to carefully monitored and maintain servers.

Hosting accounts are set up to meet the specific needs of each client, and are based on the individual functionality requirements to meet those needs and the scope of each site. The following items are included as part of each hosting account:

Unlimited POP3 email accounts, aliases, auto-responders and forwarding; mailman list manager (i.e., a distribution listserver); Webmail access to email accounts; on demand subdomain creation (e.g., members.yourdomain.com); on demand password protected directories; a cgi-bin for executables; the availability of SSL (certificates are extra); SPAM Assassin; email filtering; unlimited FTP accounts; anonymous FTP accounts; mySQL; custom error pages; access to raw log files; detailed Web stats application; on demand chat applications; on demand forum creation; on demand guestbook applications; page/hit counter; site clock; CGI Mail (form processor); Random HTML; Entropy Site Search; Entropy Banner; browser based file manager; hot link protection; shopping cart applications; and much more.

Many clients express a desire for a higher level of involvement in maintaining their own site. Our server runs a cPanel X user interface, the Web’s most popular site configuration and management software application. cPanel is a fully featured, advanced web-based control panel that allows management of a domain through a web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer) interface. The idea is to transfer as much of the control and responsibility of managing a web site to the client as they desire. The cPanel interface gives the client the ability to manage certain aspects of e-mail, files, backup, FTP, CGI scripts, and web site statistics.

Our base hosting fees, which include up to 300MB of storage space and 3GB of data transfer, are $20/month if paid annually and $25/month if paid quarterly. Additional storage space can be arranged upon further discussion or to meet future needs. Because we host only our own design clients, our hosting fees also include minor maintenance for static web pages, such as updating links and making minor changes to a sentence or paragraph.
